Boots Beauty Gift Sets: How to Work Out Real Value
Are Boots beauty gift sets good value? Compare useful contents, product sizes, Advantage Card points and the final price before buying.
On this page
A beauty gift set can be good value when it contains products someone actually wants, in useful sizes, at a lower total cost than buying them separately. A large box or an impressive advertised value does not establish that on its own. Before choosing a set at Boots, compare the contents, the amount you will pay today and any rewards you can realistically use later.
This guide shows how to make that comparison without treating unwanted minis as savings. Before paying, you can also check whether a Boots discount code is available for your basket. Availability and eligibility vary, so only count a reduction once it appears at checkout.

Start with the contents, not the size of the box
Open the product description and list each item with its size in millilitres or grams. A set described as five pieces might contain one full-size product, two small samples, a pouch and an applicator. Those five pieces should not automatically carry equal weight in your decision.
Check the exact version as well. A familiar product name does not guarantee the same shade, fragrance, formula or size as the one your recipient uses. For makeup, a suitable colour matters more than the number of colours included. For brushes and accessories, ask whether the set adds something useful or simply duplicates tools already owned.
Then divide the contents into three groups: wanted products, useful extras and items unlikely to be used. Put a personal value of zero against the last group. That is a budgeting choice, not a claim about the products’ retail value.

Use price per 100ml for comparable products
For the same product in different sizes, calculate price divided by volume, multiplied by 100. This gives a price per 100ml. Use price per 100g for products sold by weight, and keep the units consistent.
For example, a hypothetical 50ml cream costing £18 works out at £36 per 100ml. A 30ml version priced at £12 works out at £40 per 100ml. The smaller pot costs less to buy, but more for the amount inside. These are illustrative figures, not current Boots prices.
Do not add the volumes of unrelated products and calculate one price per 100ml for the whole box. A 200ml body wash and a 15ml face cream serve different purposes and have different standalone prices. Compare each component with its exact equivalent, then consider the set as a whole.
If a miniature is not sold separately, scaling down the full-size price gives an estimate of product quantity value, not a price at which you could actually buy that miniature. Label that estimate clearly in your own comparison.
Compare the set with the products you would otherwise buy
Consider this fictional £30 set. Its prices and sizes are invented solely to demonstrate the calculation.
- A 50ml moisturiser you want: the identical standalone size would cost £18.
- A 200ml body wash you want: the identical standalone size would cost £8.
- A 30ml hand cream you want: the identical standalone size would cost £6.
- A pouch you do not need: personal value £0.
The three wanted products would cost £32 separately. At £30, the set saves £2 before delivery. If the body wash would go unused, your useful alternatives cost only £24. Buying the £30 set would then mean spending £6 more for the products you actually wanted.
Compare with today’s available standalone prices, including any applicable reductions, rather than automatically using full recommended retail prices. If separate items are on offer, the set’s advantage may shrink. Equally, a set containing an exact full-size favourite plus useful extras may still be worthwhile even when its headline discount is modest.
Keep Advantage Card rewards separate from cash savings
Boots’ standard rate is three Advantage Card points per £1 on qualifying purchases, and each point is worth 1p when spent on eligible products. To collect points online, your registered card must be linked to your account at purchase. Exclusions apply.
At that standard rate, a qualifying £30 purchase would earn 90 points, worth 90p to spend later. You would still pay £30 today. Record “£30 cash cost” and “90p future points value” separately; do not describe it as a £29.10 checkout price.
Boots requires sufficient points to cover the cost of a product; points cannot be used as a partial payment towards it. Purchases paid for with points do not earn further points. Check the relevant terms before comparing a points purchase with a cash offer.
For member prices and personalised offers, sign in and check the exact item and account conditions. Boots’ FAQ says its general 10% Boots own-brand cardholder discount was replaced by personalised offers from May 2026. Older savings advice may therefore be out of date. Do not assume a percentage reduction applies to every gift set or combines with another promotion.
Make one like-for-like comparison with Superdrug
Superdrug is a useful alternative to check for beauty gifts, particularly when the same branded product or set is available at both shops. Compare the exact contents, sizes and versions, followed by the total delivered or collected price. Different-looking boxes can hide different quantities, even when the brand name matches.
Check whether a Superdrug discount code is available and applicable, then compare the resulting total with Boots. If either shop has no suitable code, use its actual selling price. A higher percentage discount does not necessarily produce the lower bill.
Make the final decision at checkout
Add any delivery or collection charge, check the arrival estimate and confirm that the basket shows the expected price. If you are buying ahead for Christmas, read the applicable returns conditions before ordering rather than assuming an extended window. Avoid adding unwanted products merely to reach a promotion or delivery threshold.
Choose the set when the recipient wants its contents and the final cost compares well with the useful alternatives. Choose individual products when the bundle mainly adds items that would sit unopened. That simple distinction makes a gift budget go further.
