Buying Fragrance at allbeauty: When Is a Bigger Bottle Better Value?

Compare fragrance bottle sizes at allbeauty with a price-per-ml calculation, realistic usage, delivery costs and checks for buying a sealed gift.

A 100ml fragrance can cost less per millilitre and still be the wrong purchase. If you only wear it occasionally, the extra cash buys liquid you may never use. When shopping at allbeauty, decide which scent and size suit your habits before comparing the percentage saving.

This guide shows how to compare bottle sizes, recognise similar-looking editions and include delivery in the calculation. The worked prices below are fictional examples, not advertised offers.

Match the complete fragrance name first

Write down the brand, full fragrance name, concentration, bottle size and format. For a repeat purchase, photograph the label on your existing bottle. One extra word such as Intense, Elixir or Absolu can identify a different product; a familiar bottle shape is not enough.

Eau de toilette and eau de parfum should not be treated as interchangeable sizes of the same purchase. For example, Dior describes different scent profiles within its Sauvage range: the eau de toilette emphasises bergamot, pepper and ambery wood, while the eau de parfum highlights bergamot, vanilla and patchouli. That does not establish how long either will last on you.

Also distinguish a complete spray bottle from a refill. Before choosing a refill, confirm that your exact bottle is compatible and that the refill instructions suit it. A cheaper price per millilitre is irrelevant if the product cannot be used as intended.

Calculate the price per millilitre

For a single-bottle order, divide the final amount you would pay, including delivery, by the fragrance volume. Keep the concentration and edition identical. This is more useful than comparing two percentage reductions against different recommended prices.

Illustration only: suppose the same fragrance is available as a 50ml bottle for £45 delivered or a 100ml bottle for £62 delivered. Neither figure represents a current allbeauty price.

BottleDelivered pricePrice per ml
50ml£4590p
100ml£6262p

The larger bottle doubles the volume for another £17. It has the lower unit price, but the smaller bottle keeps that £17 in your budget. Both statements matter. If £45 is your comfortable spending limit, a lower unit price does not make the £62 option affordable.

Ask how much you will actually use

Think about the bottle you are replacing. Did you finish it, or is there still plenty left after you moved on to other fragrances? A regular favourite and an occasional evening scent deserve different buying decisions.

In the example above, if you use just 50ml of the larger bottle and permanently stop using the rest, your effective cost is £62 divided by 50ml: £1.24 per used millilitre. Finishing the £45 bottle costs 90p per used millilitre. The unused half reverses the apparent saving.

The larger bottle needs roughly 69ml of actual use to beat 90p per millilitre: £62 divided by £0.90 is about 68.9ml. This is a planning calculation, not a prediction of shelf life or how many sprays you need. If you eventually finish the larger bottle, its original 62p unit price remains the relevant figure.

Choose a smaller bottle when trying an unfamiliar scent, rotating through several favourites or buying for someone whose preferences you do not know. Consider the bigger size when you already know the exact fragrance and have a realistic reason to expect regular use. Avoid turning a low unit price into a reason to buy a second fragrance you had not planned to purchase.

Add delivery before deciding

When checked on 29 October 2026, allbeauty’s UK delivery page listed tracked delivery at £3.95, free on orders over £25. Check the final charge for your address and chosen service, especially after applying a promotion. Delivery conditions can change.

Do not add an unwanted item solely to reach a free-delivery threshold. Compare the extra item cost with the postage you would otherwise pay. If a purchase is a gift with a deadline, look at dispatch time as well as transit time; do not assume the delivery estimate starts the moment you order.

Once the exact bottle is chosen, check whether an allbeauty discount code is listed and applies to it. Read brand exclusions and minimum-spend conditions, then compare the final basket total. An offer may be unavailable or unsuitable for your selected fragrance.

Compare the same bottle at Boots

Boots is a relevant second check for designer fragrances because its fragrance department also carries brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Armani and Givenchy. Compare the precise edition, concentration and size available at each retailer. A cheaper 30ml bottle cannot be compared directly with a 50ml price, and a gift set needs its contents checked separately.

Look for a relevant Boots discount code if one is available, then compare the amount payable after delivery or any collection charge. Treat rewards for a future purchase separately from today’s cash saving; only give them value if you realistically expect to use them.

Keep a gift sealed until the choice is confirmed

allbeauty’s returns policy, checked on 29 October 2026, allows unopened products to be returned within 30 days of receipt under its change-of-mind guarantee. It offers a UK Freepost route. Follow the current returns instructions and keep the packaging and proof of postage. Faulty or damaged items have a separate process.

For a present, verify the recipient’s exact fragrance beforehand and consider whether the returns window will still be open when they receive it. Do not open a sealed bottle to test a speculative gift purchase. The strongest value is the right scent in a quantity the recipient will enjoy, bought at a total you are happy to pay.
