Buying Baker Ross Craft Kits: How Many Packs Does Your Group Need?

Calculate how many Baker Ross craft packs your group needs. Compare complete project costs, extra materials, delivery and the risk of unused supplies.

A low price per craft can look tempting until you discover that the pack leaves two children without a project, needs extra glue or contains far more than your group will use. When ordering Baker Ross craft kits for a party, club or family afternoon, start with the number of completed makes you need. Then compare the cost of the whole activity.

The useful question is not simply which pack is cheapest. It is which combination gives everyone an appropriate project, includes the necessary materials and arrives in time without creating a cupboard full of leftovers.

Count finished projects, not pieces in the packet

Write down the headcount, how many items each person will make and whether you need a demonstration sample. If 18 children will make one decoration each and you want one finished example, you need materials for 19 complete decorations. Packs of eight would mean buying three packs, giving 24 makes and five spare after the sample.

A headline such as “100 pieces” is less useful if several pieces are needed for each finished item. Read the contents and instructions to establish the number of complete projects. Check whether an assortment gives everyone the same choices: eight different designs does not mean eight of each design.

Choose for the participants before choosing for the price. Check the stated age guidance, small components, tools and adult help required. Baker Ross’s Star Mix & Match Decoration Kits, for example, carry a warning against use by children under 36 months because of small parts and long cord. A discounted kit that is unsuitable for your group is not a saving.

Compare the pack combinations your group actually needs

On 1 November 2026, Baker Ross listed its Star Mix & Match Decoration Kits at £4.95 for eight and £18.95 for 32, including VAT. These are a dated example for the calculation, rather than a promise of the price when you order.

The larger pack works out at about 59p per decoration, compared with about 62p in the smaller pack. But the lower unit price does not always mean a lower bill:

  • For 24 makes: three packs of eight cost £14.85. Buying 32 costs £4.10 more and leaves eight unused unless you have another activity planned.
  • For 30 makes: four packs of eight cost £19.80. The pack of 32 costs £18.95, saving 85p for the same total quantity.

Those figures cover the kits only, before delivery or any applicable promotion. Repeat the calculation for your chosen product and count any demonstration or spare projects in the total. Give leftover materials a value only if you have a realistic use for them.

Check which extras the kit needs

The star decoration example includes foam templates, adhesive decorations and hanging ribbon; its instructions are included and separate glue is not required. That makes it a different purchase from undecorated blanks that may need paint, brushes or additional fixings. Do not assume every kit has the same contents.

Make a short inventory before adding supplies: usable glue, working scissors, suitable pens, table protection and any containers needed for drying or taking projects home. Check whether equipment can be shared comfortably. One pair of scissors may be enough for two children taking turns, but creates a queue for a whole table.

Keep materials for future sessions separate from the immediate activity budget. A large bottle of paint may be good long-term value, yet still increase what you must spend today. Compare both the initial outlay and what remains usefully available afterwards.

Include postage before adding another pack

At the time of checking, Baker Ross’s dedicated delivery page listed standard UK mainland delivery at £4.95, with an estimated three to four working days. Other destinations and faster services have different terms. Check your postcode, the order cut-off and the delivery estimate, and leave time to inspect the contents before the event.

Before paying, review the Baker Ross discount code page and check any offer’s minimum spend, eligible items and delivery conditions against your basket. A percentage reduction and free delivery may not be combinable; use the total actually shown at checkout.

For a hypothetical basket with a £5 delivery charge, adding an unwanted £8 pack to qualify for free delivery would increase the bill by £3. Adding supplies already needed for a confirmed second activity may make sense, but avoid buying speculative extras just to reach a threshold.

Compare a smaller activity at Hobbycraft

Hobbycraft is a relevant comparison when you need a smaller number of children’s craft activities. Its kids’ craft range includes individual projects and multipacks, including scratch-art sets. Compare the same type of activity, age suitability, number of completed makes and included tools, rather than placing a single project beside a group pack on price alone.

Check the Hobbycraft discount code page once you have a comparable basket. If collection is available for your chosen items, include any extra journey cost and the time needed to collect them. A nearby collection can be useful for a small order; a separate car journey can remove the apparent saving.

Inspect the order before splitting up the packs

Baker Ross’s published returns policy allows returns within 28 days of receipt, but excludes opened or part packs unless defective. It also says customers pay return postage unless the goods are defective or sent in error. Check quantities and suitability before opening every pack or dividing components into party bags.

Keep the order details and packaging until you have checked everything. With the right pack count, a clear list of extras and a confirmed delivered total, you can spend on an activity the group will finish rather than supplies that remain unused.
