Buying AGA Cookshop Roasting Tins: Which Size and Finish Will You Use?
Choose AGA roasting tins by cooker fit, size and cleaning needs, then compare accessories, delivery and practical alternatives.
On this page
A roasting tin can be a poor buy even when the price looks attractive: it may not fit your cooker, take up too much cupboard space or need care you will not keep up with. When shopping at AGA Cookshop, begin with the meals you make and the oven you own. Then compare the cost of the smallest useful selection.

Start with your cooker, not the word “large”
Write down your cooker model before choosing a tin. AGA Cookshop describes its enamelled roasting tins as fitting the runners of AGA cast-iron ovens. That is a specific reason to consider the range if you want a tin that slides directly onto those runners.
Do not assume that a pan from another range, or one described simply as suitable for ovens, works in the same way. If your cooker model or the product description leaves any doubt, ask AGA to confirm compatibility before ordering.
For a conventional oven, measure the usable shelf space and check the tin’s complete outside dimensions, including its rim or handles. Allow the clearance required by your cooker instructions and room to lift the tin with oven gloves. The cooking surface inside the tin can be smaller than its overall footprint.
Choose half-size or full-size around a normal meal
AGA lists its enamelled roasting tins at 34.5 × 23.7cm for the half-size and 46 × 34cm for the full-size version. These figures describe that range; do not transfer them to every product carrying a half-size or full-size label.
Think through an ordinary Sunday lunch. Does one tin need to hold a whole joint, or do you usually cook vegetables separately? AGA says two of its half-size tins can sit one behind the other in an AGA oven. That makes the format worth considering when you want separate dishes rather than one large cooking surface.
Depth matters too. The listed hard-anodised roasting tins are 5.5cm deep, while AGA also sells separately named deep versions. Check the exact model rather than ordering from a thumbnail. A deep roasting tin and a shallow baking tray solve different jobs, even when their width and length look similar.
Match the finish to your cleaning routine
The care instructions provide a useful way to narrow the choice:
- Hard anodised: AGA’s standard roasting tin product page says it must not go in the dishwasher. It recommends warm soapy water and a nylon scourer for stubborn residue.
- Enamelled steel: the enamelled roasting tin page permits dishwasher cleaning. It also advises avoiding abrasive cleaners, impacts and metal utensils that could damage the enamel.
- Stainless steel: AGA’s stainless steel roasting tin range is listed as dishwasher safe. Check the dimensions of the size you select, as they differ from the enamelled range.
Choose the care routine you will actually follow. If hand-washing a large tin would be awkward, check the sink space before buying. Equally, dishwasher suitability is only useful if the tin fits your machine.
Oven suitability does not by itself establish hob or induction compatibility. If you want to make gravy directly in the roasting tin on a hob, obtain confirmation for that exact tin and hob combination.

Price the useful kit, including delivery
Check what is included before comparing a set with individual tins. AGA lists grill racks separately, so confirm whether a rack comes with your chosen product. Add any genuinely necessary accessory to both sides of the comparison, rather than comparing a bare tin with a complete kit.
A set earns its place only when you will use the pieces. For example, a hypothetical £65 bundle costs £25 more than a £40 tin; unused extras do not recover that difference. These are illustrative figures, not current AGA prices.
AGA’s published standard delivery policy lists £4.95 for UK and Northern Ireland orders below the £50 free-delivery threshold, with separate Channel Islands charges. Confirm the final charge at checkout, particularly after any discount. Adding an unnecessary £10 item to avoid £4.95 postage increases your spend.
Once you have chosen the correct product, check the AGA Cookshop discount code page and read any offer’s exclusions and minimum spend. A possible saving should support your choice of tin, not determine its size or finish.
When is Tower Housewares a useful comparison?
If you need a roasting tray for a conventional oven, Tower Housewares offers a relevant alternative to compare. Its Cerasure two-piece roasting set lists trays measuring 32.5 × 21.5 × 5cm and 39.5 × 25.5 × 5cm, an oven limit of 230°C and hand-washing instructions.
Compare those specifications with your recipe temperatures, shelf space and cleaning preferences before checking the Tower Housewares discount code page. The set is not presented here as a direct replacement for an AGA tin that fits oven runners. Confirm compatibility separately if that feature is essential.
Check the fit before the first meal
When the order arrives, inspect the tin and check its size before washing or cooking with it. Retain the packaging while you decide. AGA’s standard policy gives 28 days from receipt for change-of-mind returns, says online purchases cannot be returned to a shop, and places return costs on the customer.
Choosing carefully before ordering can therefore save both postage and inconvenience. Start with one tin that fits your cooker, meals and storage, then add another only when you can identify a job the first cannot do.
