Which Dehumidifier at Robert Dyas Makes Sense for Drying Laundry?

Compare dehumidifier extraction, room temperature and running costs at Robert Dyas, then check the same model’s delivered price at Currys.

When the airer is still full on the next washing day, a dehumidifier can look like a useful way to free it up. Before choosing one at Robert Dyas, check how its extraction rating relates to the room where you will use it. A machine labelled 20L will collect different amounts in a warm, damp room and a cool spare bedroom. The purchase price, electricity use and space beside your airer all belong in the decision.

Read the conditions behind the litres per day

The MeacoDry Arete One 20L provides a useful example from the Robert Dyas range. Meaco rates it at 20 litres per day at 30°C and 80% relative humidity. Its published table gives 8.5 litres per day at 20°C and 60% humidity, and 3.4 litres at 10°C and 60% humidity. Those figures describe the same machine under different conditions.

Measure the temperature in your intended drying room before comparing models. If it usually sits around 10°C, a headline figure measured at 30°C gives you little help with the laundry you actually need to dry. Look for the manufacturer’s extraction data at a temperature closer to yours. Where two models publish different test conditions, keep those conditions beside the figures on your shortlist.

The daily figure also cannot tell you when a particular load will be ready to fold. The amount of washing, water left after the spin and available space between garments all change the task. Plan around your usual load and the time before the next one needs the airer.

Work out an electricity allowance for your routine

Robert Dyas lists the Arete One 20L at 216 watts under 20°C and 60% humidity conditions. Use your own electricity unit rate to turn that into a rough budget. Divide watts by 1,000, multiply by the hours of operation, then multiply by the price per kilowatt-hour.

For example, six hours at a constant 216 watts uses 1.296kWh. At an illustrative rate of 30p per kWh, that costs about 39p. Running the same assumed session four times a week would cost about £1.56. The 30p figure is an example to replace with the rate on your bill. The six hours is a budgeting assumption, and does not promise that your washing will be dry by then. Actual power use changes with conditions and operation.

For a model you already own, an appropriately rated plug-in energy meter can give you the electricity used during a normal drying session. Keep the load and room similar when comparing sessions, and note whether the clothes were ready to put away. That helps you decide whether paying for an upgrade would solve a problem you still have.

Check how it will fit into wash day

The Arete One 20L has a 4.8-litre collection tank and a laundry mode. Meaco lists its weight as 15kg, so think about where it can stay during the week, particularly if the airer is upstairs. Check the current manufacturer’s dimensions and positioning instructions against the available floor space. Leave access to remove and empty the tank without moving a full airer.

A bigger tank may suit someone who finds frequent emptying awkward, while a smaller appliance may be easier to accommodate. Compare tank capacity separately from the litres-per-day extraction rating. They answer different questions about using the machine.

Compare the same model at checkout

On 5 November 2026, Robert Dyas listed the MeacoDry Arete One 20L at £239.99. Currys listed the same model at £259, a £19.01 difference before any applicable delivery charges or offers. Currys showed free standard delivery for this order value, subject to its delivery availability. At Robert Dyas, check the delivery option for the actual product and postcode before treating the listed price as your total.

Check whether a Robert Dyas discount code applies to the model in your basket. If Currys can offer a collection or delivery date that better fits your plans, compare its final price using a Currys discount code as well. Keep the model name, capacity and generation identical during that comparison. The Arete One and Arete Two have different features, so a price difference between them needs a separate decision about which features you will use.
