About Red Letter Days
Founded in 1989, by entrepreneur Rachel Elnaugh, who became a TV celebrity in the United Kingdom after appearing on the hit TV show Dragon’s Den, Red Letter Days was the company that began the ‘Day Experience’ voucher as gifts and rewards, business model. This model essentially allows people to give gift experiences or days out in the form of a voucher or letter (hence the name), which is then exchanged at the venue for the real thing. After handing over the reins to a new CEO in 2002, the company embarked on a series of disastrous business decisions, which lead the complete collapse of the company and it going into administration in August 2005. The company’s ultimate demise was blamed by owner Racheal Elnaugh, on the banks who refused to release a three million pound bond that she claims would have saved the company. No matter what the reason, Red Letter Days collapsed, meaning that thousands of people were left with vouchers they could no longer use. Help was at hand for the troubled company when two young entrepreneurs bought the company and put it back at the top and who very decently offered to honor the £17m worth of outstanding vouchers. Since then the company has clawed its way back onto its throne as the leading online provider of day experience gifts and rewards.
