About Gardening Direct

Gardening Direct is a mail-order nursery selling young plants in quantity, mainly bedding and patio plants grown as plugs and delivered ready to pot on. The model is volume: large trays of young stock at a low price per plant.
It sells to gardeners filling borders, baskets and containers rather than to people buying one specimen, and the catalogue is built that way.

What they sell

Summer and winter bedding is the core: busy lizzies, geraniums, petunias, begonias, pansies and violas, sold by the tray. Basket and patio collections are put together as mixed packs.
Beyond bedding there are perennials, shrubs, bulbs and vegetable plants, plus the growing sundries that go with raising plugs on — trays, compost, feed and frost fleece.

Growing plugs on

Plug plants are not finished plants. They arrive small, often only a few centimetres across, and need potting into larger cells or pots and growing under cover until the risk of frost has passed. That step is not optional, and it is where most disappointment comes from.
Order in the delivery window given on the listing rather than when it suits, and be at home to unpack them. Plants that sit in a box in a warm hallway for three days rarely recover. Unpack, water and give them light the same day they land.
Buying in bulk is what makes this cheap. The per-plant price falls steeply with tray size, and a larger tray split with someone else beats a percentage code on a small order most of the time.

Using a Gardening Direct discount code

Fill the basket first, then enter the code there and check the total before paying. These appear as Gardening Direct discount codes, voucher codes and promo codes.
Nursery offers move with the season and clear surplus stock at the end of a growing window. Carriage on living plants is usually charged separately and is not covered by a percentage off the goods.
