About Mattress Man

Mattress Man is a British bed and mattress retailer selling online with a small number of stores where you can lie on the stock, and a Mattress Man discount code is spent on a purchase most people make once a decade. The useful knowledge here is about springs and tension, because those two things decide how a mattress feels far more than the brand name on the label does.

Open coil and pocket springs are not the same idea

An open coil unit is one connected framework of springs, so pressure in one place moves the springs next to it. Pocket springs are each sewn into their own fabric pocket and move independently, which is why a pocket-sprung mattress handles two sleepers of different weights without one rolling towards the other. Spring counts are quoted per mattress and are not comparable between sizes, since a larger mattress holds more springs at the same density.

Tension is matched to weight, not to preference

Soft, medium and firm describe the spring tension, and the right one depends mostly on body weight: a heavier sleeper compresses a soft mattress until it no longer supports the spine, while a lighter sleeper never compresses a firm one enough to get any contouring. Where two people differ substantially, a zip-together pair or a pocket-sprung mattress with a higher spring count handles it better than a compromise tension.

Turn, rotate or neither

Traditional two-sided mattresses need turning over and rotating to wear evenly. Many modern mattresses have a single sleeping surface and must only be rotated head to foot. Doing the wrong one with a no-turn mattress puts the comfort layer underneath you. The label says which, and the answer is fixed for the life of the mattress.

Depth, frames and getting it through the door

A deep mattress on a divan raises the bed higher than people expect and can outgrow fitted sheets and a headboard. On a bunk or a frame with guard rails there is a maximum depth for safety. Measure the stairs and the turn as well as the room, and check whether delivery includes taking the old mattress away, which is usually a paid extra.

Using a Mattress Man discount code

Apply the code in the basket and check the total before paying. Codes commonly exclude clearance stock, bed frames bundled with a mattress at an offer price, and delivery or disposal charges, and carry a minimum spend.
