Christophe Robin is a French luxury haircare line built by a colourist, and that origin shows in a range organised around what colouring does to hair rather than around hair type alone.

The range

The Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt is the signature product — a coarse scrub used on the scalp before shampooing, aimed at build-up from dry shampoo, styling product and hard water. Around it sit shampoos and conditioners, deep masks, pre-shampoo treatments, leave-in products, oils and serums, and the Shade Variation masks, which deposit a little pigment to refresh or cool a colour between salon visits. Why a colourist's range works differently

Colour-treated hair has been chemically opened to take pigment, and it loses that pigment to every wash, to sunlight and to heat. The products here lean on gentle, sulphate-light cleansing and on replacing what colouring strips, which is why the masks are rich and the shampoos foam less than you may expect — less foam is not less clean. The pigmented masks are the practical star for anyone who pays for colour: they hold a tone for the weeks between appointments and cost far less than going back early.

This is expensive haircare, so use it properly. The scrub goes on the scalp, not the lengths, once a week at most — using it more often strips a scalp that then produces more oil, which is the opposite of what you wanted. Masks want damp, towel-dried hair and several minutes, not thirty seconds. With a shade variation mask, start with less time than the packet suggests and check, since pigment builds and pale or porous hair takes it fast; wear gloves. If your scalp is genuinely inflamed, flaking persistently or sore, that is a GP or trichologist matter rather than a shopping one.
