Choosing a robot vacuum

The dock decides how much work the machine actually saves. Each step up removes a chore and adds a lot to the price, so decide which chore you are buying out of.
Mopping is not one feature. A flat cloth dragged behind the robot is a wipe; a spinning or oscillating pad with water metering is closer to actual cleaning, and only some models lift the pad when they reach carpet.
Navigation matters in a cluttered house. Laser mapping handles a real floor plan and lets you set no-go zones from the app; cheaper sensor-only models bounce around and get stuck.
Budget for consumables. Brushes, filters, mop pads and dust bags are replaced on a schedule, and over three years they add up to a meaningful fraction of the machine, so check they are still sold for the model you choose.
