About Edx Education

Edx Education makes the sort of hands-on learning resources that nurseries and primary schools buy by the tub, and its UK shop sells them to parents too — a discount code is worth having, because these are the kind of things you end up buying several of.

What they sell

Thirty years of making early-years resources shows in the catalogue. It runs to counting and sorting materials, pattern blocks, linking cubes, geometric construction sticks, translucent shapes for a light panel, water and sand trays, threading and pegboard sets, and larger active-play equipment such as balance stones and hopping toys. Many products are designed against the Early Years Foundation Stage framework used in English settings, so what a nursery would use for counting, sorting and fine motor work is the same thing that arrives in a home order.

Why "educational toy" means something specific here

Most of this range is what teachers call manipulatives — physical objects a child handles while an idea becomes concrete. Sorting bears by colour is early data handling; linking cubes are the difference between a child reciting numbers and a child understanding that six is more than four; pattern blocks are early geometry. The value is not that the toy teaches on its own, because it does not: it works when an adult plays alongside and asks questions. Open-ended materials with no single correct outcome tend to hold a child's attention far longer than a toy that does one thing.

Buying for the right age, and for safety

Age marking on toys is a safety judgement rather than a difficulty rating. A "3+" label on small counters, pebbles or beads almost always means a choking risk for a younger sibling, and the danger in a house with a toddler is the older child's set left out on the floor. Check whether pieces are dishwasher-safe or wipeable, since anything used with water or sand needs cleaning. For light-panel and translucent resources, confirm the panel you own before buying accessories, because sizes differ between makers.

Delivery, bulk buying and using your code

The UK shop offers free delivery over a spend threshold, which is why these orders are usually built up rather than placed one item at a time. If you are buying for a childminding setting or a classroom, look for the larger tub quantities rather than multiples of the small pack — the price per piece is normally the reason the tubs exist. Put your code into the basket before payment and watch the total change; items already reduced in a sale are usually excluded from a further code.
