About Hug Rug

Hug Rug makes washable rugs in Britain, and the whole range is built around one idea: a rug that lives where the mess happens and then goes into the machine.

What Hug Rug sells

The core of the range is the barrier mat — the doormat that sits inside the front door and takes the water, grit and paw prints off shoes before they reach the carpet. Beyond those there are hallway runners, kitchen mats, bath mats and larger room rugs, plus mats sized for the space in front of a range cooker or a back door. Patterns run from plain heathered colours through stripes and geometrics to seasonal and animal designs, so a mat can either disappear into a hallway or become the thing people notice first.

Why the washable part matters

A doormat that cannot be cleaned is a doormat that gets thrown away. These are made to go into a domestic machine at a low temperature and come out looking like themselves, which changes how you use them: a spilled bowl, a muddy walk or a dog that has found a puddle stops being a small disaster. Check the label on the specific mat you buy for the temperature and for the drying advice, because the larger sizes need a machine with enough drum space to move freely, and tumble drying is not right for every piece in the range.

Picking the right size

Measure the doorway before ordering rather than guessing. A barrier mat only works if a person takes two or three steps on it, so the length along the walking direction matters more than the width. In a hallway, a runner that stops short of the far door leaves an exposed strip of carpet that wears differently to the rest. For a kitchen, think about where you stand rather than where the floor looks empty — in front of the sink and the hob is where the drips land.

Colour choice is worth a moment of thought too. A pale heathered mat looks beautiful in a photograph and shows every wet paw print in real life, while the darker heathers and patterned designs hide the day-to-day traffic between washes. Households with dogs tend to be happier with a mid or dark tone by the door and save the lighter colours for a bathroom or bedroom, where the dirt never reaches.

Using a Hug Rug discount code

The basket takes a single code, while free carriage arrives by itself once the order clears the stated value.
