About MojoFun

Mojo Fun makes hand-painted animal figurines, designed in Britain and aimed at the point where a child's toy box meets a collector's shelf.

The collections

Models are grouped by habitat and subject: Wildlife covers the big mammals and birds, Sealife the marine species, Prehistoric the dinosaurs, Farmland the domestic animals, Woodland the British countryside, and Fantasy the dragons and mythical creatures. Above those sits the Enthusiast Collection, made to a higher level of detail for people who buy figures to display rather than to play with. Every piece is sculpted and hand-painted, so no two are quite identical.

Toy or collectable

Both, and it is worth knowing which you are buying for. The standard ranges are solid, safety-tested and made to survive a carpet, a sandpit and a bath — they are proper toys with accurate anatomy rather than cartoon shapes, which is what makes them useful for learning as well as playing. The Enthusiast pieces are finer, more detailed and correspondingly more delicate; they are display models and will not enjoy being thrown. Check the age marking on the individual figure, since the smallest pieces carry a three-plus mark for choking risk.

Buying and looking after them

Because these are painted by hand, colour and finish vary slightly from one example to the next, which is normal for the process rather than a defect. Wash them in cool water with a little mild soap if they get muddy, and keep them out of prolonged direct sunlight, which fades painted detail over years. If you are building a set, note that ranges are refreshed periodically and a species retired from the line does not usually return, so completing a group is easier done sooner. They make good small gifts, and a child who is interested in one animal will usually stay interested in the range.
