Sand&Sky is a skincare brand built on Australian botanicals, best known for its pink clay mask and organised into a handful of short ranges rather than an endless catalogue.

Four ranges, each with a job

The pink clay line is the one people arrive for: a clay mask aimed at congestion and the look of pores, with a cleanser and companion products around it. A spring water range handles hydration, a berry-based range targets dullness and uneven tone, and an oil-control line is aimed at blemish-prone skin. There are serums, moisturisers, eye creams, exfoliants, sun care and body products, sold individually and in kits. Formulas are vegan and the brand is certified cruelty-free.

Clay masks do one thing well and one thing badly

A clay mask absorbs oil and lifts surface debris, which is why skin looks tighter and clearer straight afterwards. What it does not do is shrink pores, because pore size is largely down to genetics and what sits inside them. The mistake to avoid is frequency: used two or three times a week on oily skin it helps, used daily or left on until it cracks it strips the skin barrier and the oiliness comes back worse. Take it off while it is still slightly tacky, not bone dry.

Patch test, and add one thing at a time

Any new product deserves a patch test behind the ear or on the inner forearm for a couple of days, and that goes double for anything with active ingredients or a long botanical list — plant extracts are among the more common causes of contact reactions, not the safest option by default. Bring in one new thing, wait a few weeks, then consider the next. Layering a new mask, a new acid and a new serum in the same week guarantees that if your skin reacts you will have no idea which one to blame.

The routine that does the heavy lifting

Most visible improvement comes from a small, boring core: cleanse without stripping, moisturise, and use sun protection every day, including through a British winter, because ultraviolet is what drives most of the tone and texture change people try to treat later. Exfoliating acids and retinoids work but build tolerance slowly and increase sun sensitivity. If you have persistent acne, rosacea or a rash that will not settle, that is a dermatologist's question rather than a shopping one.
