About Secret Escapes

Secret Escapes is a members' club for discounted hotel stays and holidays. Membership costs nothing, and joining is what unlocks the prices, which is the whole mechanic behind the business.

Why the prices are hidden behind a login

Hotels release rooms quietly at rates they do not want published openly, and the site shows those rates only to signed-in members for a limited window. Sales start and finish continuously, with a large number running at any moment, which is why the same property can appear one week and vanish the next. It suits someone with flexible dates far better than someone who needs a specific hotel on a specific night.

What is actually sold

Beyond hotel-only stays there are spa breaks, city breaks, ski trips, cruises, safaris and full holidays with flights included. A flight-inclusive package is a different legal product from a room booking, which matters for protection and for what happens if part of the trip is cancelled. Check which of the two you are buying before paying.

Financial protection is not automatic

The site states plainly that some flights and flight-inclusive holidays are protected by the ATOL scheme, but that the protection does not apply to everything listed. That is an important sentence and worth acting on: look for the protection wording on the specific booking rather than assuming it covers the whole site. A hotel-only booking is normally not covered by that scheme at all.

Judging whether a deal is a deal

The discount shown is measured against a reference price, and reference prices in travel are elastic. The reliable check takes a minute: open the hotel's own site and one large booking platform, compare the total for identical dates and room type, and confirm what is included. Frequently the club rate genuinely wins, particularly on spa and dining packages. Sometimes it does not. Check the cancellation terms too, since the cheapest rates are often non-refundable.
