Umberto Giannini is a British haircare brand that has built its range around curls, and its Curl Jelly has been on shelves since the early 2000s, long before the current interest in curly hair.
The range
Products are grouped by what they do rather than by hair type alone: cleansing shampoos and co-washes, conditioners and deep masks, pre-shampoo treatments, then styling products — the Curl Jelly itself, mousses and foams, curl creams, leave-in conditioners, oils and serums. There is scalp care, refresh sprays for second and third day hair, travel sizes for trying something before committing, and a Mini Curls line made for children. The brand is vegan and cruelty free and holds B Corp certification.
Finding your curl type
The site sorts products by the standard curl scale — 2A to 2C for waves, 3A to 3C for curls, 4A to 4C for coils — and the distinction is useful rather than decorative. Looser waves are weighed down easily and want light foams and sprays, while tighter coils are drier by nature, because the natural oils from the scalp travel down a coiled strand far less readily, and they need heavier creams and butters.
