About Evans Cycles
A British cycle retailer with shops across the country and a large online business, now part of a major retail group. After the collapse of Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles, those web addresses now lead here, which makes Evans the main survivor of that consolidation.
Having physical stores matters in cycling more than in most retail, because a bike needs building, fitting and servicing by someone.
What they sell
Road, mountain, hybrid, gravel, electric and children's bikes, components and workshop parts, clothing and helmets, turbo trainers, and accessories from lights to locks.
Bikes are the anchor, and the service that comes with them is a large part of what you are paying for against a box-shifter.
Getting the size right
Frame size is the one thing you cannot adjust away. Manufacturers size differently, so use the maker's own geometry chart against your height and inside leg rather than a generic table.
Between two sizes, the smaller frame with a longer stem is usually more adjustable than the larger frame with a shorter one. If a shop offers a fitting session, it is worth more than any component upgrade at this price level.
For children, buy the size that fits now. A bike bought two sizes big is a bike a child cannot control.
What happens after you buy
A new bike needs its first service after the initial weeks of riding, once cables have stretched and spokes have settled. Many retailers include it; book it rather than forgetting it.
Electric bikes sold for UK road use are limited by law in assisted speed and motor power, and anything beyond that is not a bicycle in legal terms. That affects where it can be ridden and whether it needs registering and insuring.
Budget for a lock, lights and a helmet at the same time as the bike.
Using an Evans Cycles discount code
Check whether a Cycle to Work scheme voucher can be combined with a code before ordering, since the two usually cannot be stacked and the scheme is normally worth more.
