About JOY

JOY is a British retailer selling independent womenswear alongside homeware and gifts, with a buy that leans towards print, colour and pieces you will not see everywhere.

What it sells

Clothing is the largest part: tea dresses, midis, maxis and minis, tops and blouses, skirts, trousers, knitwear, coats and jackets. Around that sit accessories — bags, scarves, hats, gloves, sunglasses and hair pieces — and a jewellery selection running from everyday earrings to statement necklaces and brooches. The homeware side covers mirrors, frames, vases, cushions, candles and lighting, and there is a proper gift section with cards, stationery and vouchers sorted by who you are buying for.

The independent-brand angle

Buying from smaller labels is the point of a shop like this, and it changes how you should shop it. Ranges arrive in short runs rather than deep stock, so a dress in your size is often there in modest numbers and does not come back once it goes. Sizing varies between labels in a way it does not in a single-brand shop, so read the individual size guide rather than assuming the size you took last time carries across. And a detail JOY makes a point of: most of the dresses have pockets, which is a smaller thing than it sounds until you have spent an evening holding a phone.

Buying gifts here

The gift section is organised by recipient rather than by product type, which is genuinely useful when you have no idea what to buy. If you are ordering for a date — a birthday, Christmas — check the delivery estimate rather than the dispatch time, and order well ahead in December when independent stock and courier networks are both under strain. Gift vouchers exist for the cases where you truly cannot guess.
Stock turns over with the seasons rather than sitting all year, and the homeware side moves fastest around Christmas, when the candles, decorations and small gifts sell through. If something on the site is exactly right for a particular person, it is worth taking rather than returning to later, because independent ranges rarely restock once a run has gone.

Using a JOY discount code

Put the pieces in your bag, add the code in the discount field at checkout, and confirm the amount before paying.
