PetLink comes at pet safety from an unusual direction: the parent business runs a microchip registry, and the shop sells the everyday things that sit around that, from engraved tags to a GPS collar unit.

What the store sells

Personalised identification is the core, with stainless steel, silicone and glitter collar tags engraved to order, and reflective, cotton and break-away collars with a slider tag built in so nothing dangles. A GPS tracker for dogs sits above them, reporting a live location to a phone. Beyond the hardware there is a line of clothing for owners rather than animals, and pet insurance is offered separately through the parent company.

Microchip, tag or tracker

These solve three different problems and it is worth being clear which one you are buying. A microchip is permanent and cannot be removed, but it only works once somebody catches the animal and has it scanned, and it is useless if the registry entry still lists an old phone number. An engraved tag is what a neighbour reads in the first ten minutes, which is when most animals are actually recovered. A GPS unit is the only one that tells you where the dog is right now, and it needs charging and usually a subscription to keep reporting. Most owners are best served by a chip with current details plus a readable tag, with GPS added for an animal that genuinely wanders.

Applying a discount code

Personalise the tag first, since engraving details are entered on the product page, then open the basket and put the code into the discount field before payment and check the total updates. Codes here are frequently written against the GPS unit rather than the whole shop, so one that will not apply to a collar is probably meant for the tracker. One code per order, and it will not stack on a promotion already showing on the product page.

Getting the engraving right

Put a phone number on the tag rather than the animal's name, since a name helps a stranger call the dog and does little else, while a number gets it home. Check the character count before ordering, because engraving is done to what you typed and a personalised item cannot be returned for a change of mind. If the animal is chipped, log in to the registry and confirm the contact details there are current at the same time; a stale record is the commonest reason a chipped pet is not reunited.
