About Red Letter Days

Red Letter Days sells experience gifts — driving days, spa breaks, dining, flying lessons and afternoon teas — and a Red Letter Days discount code is applied to the voucher rather than to the day out. The company is part of the Moonpig group alongside Buyagift. Buying an experience is not like buying an object, and almost everything that goes wrong comes from treating it as though it were.

Buying and booking are two separate steps

A voucher is a right to book, not a reservation. Someone has to contact the supplier, choose a date and be given a slot, and popular activities in summer and around Christmas fill weeks ahead. If the gift is for a particular occasion, say so on the card, because the recipient who waits three months to book may find nothing available near the date they wanted.

Expiry is the thing to write down

Every voucher carries a validity period, commonly measured in months from purchase rather than from the date the present is opened. Buying in January for a birthday in November eats most of it. Extensions are usually possible and usually chargeable, and an expired voucher is generally not refundable. Note the date somewhere other than the envelope.

Restrictions are set by the supplier, not the gift company

Driving experiences have minimum ages, height ranges and a valid licence requirement. Flying, karting and high-adrenaline days carry weight limits and health questions about back, neck and heart conditions and about pregnancy, and spa days often exclude treatments during pregnancy. These conditions are on the experience page and are not negotiable on the day, so read them before choosing for someone whose health you do not know about.

Weather, cancellation and what a voucher covers

Outdoor and flying experiences are cancelled for weather and rebooked rather than refunded, so allow spare time in the validity period. Check what is actually included: whether a passenger is covered, whether insurance or a track fee is extra, and whether food is part of a spa day or bought on the day.

Using a Red Letter Days discount code

Enter the code before payment and check the total, as a purchased voucher cannot be repriced. Codes usually carry a minimum spend, exclude experiences already reduced and gift boxes priced as a bundle, and apply to a set purchase window rather than to the booking.
